Talent vs. Consistency

We all know the slogan: Maybe she's born with it. Maybe its Maybelline. For me this slogan highlights a lot of issues with women's and sometimes even men's body-image issues. The media offers us photoshopped, touched up images of the perfect body shape and size, and while many may disagree with that yardstick for measuring beauty, countless men and women fall for it, trying to achieve the unachievable. Adriana Lima, Victoria's Secret model and mother of two was definitely born with it, she's gorgeous and healthy looking, but a little bit of Maybelline went a long way in the above photo shoot. Cindy Crawford famously said "I wish i looked like Cindy Crawford". Is it really healthy to be comparing ourselves to ideals not even the most beautiful people in the world are able to achieve?
There is a similar question posed when looking at someones fitness levels. These "health and fitness" magazines seem to throw you so much contradicting information it feels like a never-ending maze that leads right back to where you started in the first place.Stay as far away from preservatives and laboratory produced chemicals they pump into your food, they say. In the same breath they are advertising laboratory made performance enhancing supplements...

The reality of it all is this: Whoever pays best gets their product advertised in the glossy. It seems a simple enough concept, but we are putting our trust in the wrong people.

There is no magic drug out there that's going to make you look like those beautiful people in the magazines. All you are likely to gain is liver damage, kidney damage and the weight right back when your drugs run out. And men, steroids can leave you with unhealthy hormone imbalances and liver problems. We all deserve better than that, and we all deserve to get good, unfiltered and TRUE information that isn't trying to sell something damaging to you for their own monetary gains.

If you feel that you want to try the quick fixes, go ahead. I have. I was a chubby kid and skinny doesn't come naturally to me. The quick fixes helped me lose 3kg and then gain 6kg..

Some women are "talented" and are able to exercise very little and eat what ever they want and stay trim. The same goes for men who gain muscle easily because of their high levels of Testosterone. Talented. But one must remember that these people still need to train. They will never be shredded if they don't lift weights. They will never be toned if they don't work their muscles and you wont see their abs if they don't watch their diets. Nothing is for free. some people may have an easier time of it but it's the consistent people, the ones who put in blood, sweat and tears who really achieve great things.

The most important thing to remember is that you should never compare yourself to others, but rather to the person you were yesterday. If you keep improving on him/her you will no doubt become the best you that you can be. That person is just waiting to surface and he/she is pretty fucking awesome! Trust me :)
